The Art of NATURE, The Art of SCIENCE
Pecan (Carya Illinoinensis) is a member of the walnut family native to south-central North America. The pecan nut is considered “The Queen of Nuts” in the USA because of its value as an important edible nut crop. The shell of the fruit, or nut, contributes to approximately 40-50% of its mass. However, these shells are commonly used as a byproduct for industrial processing. Pecan shells can be used for grilling to add flavor, as a biofuel source, and for making body scrubs and soaps as a natural exfoliator. Pecan Shell-ANB shows anti-oxidant activities when tested with DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays. In addition, it also shows skin brightening activities and anti-wrinkle activity.
