The peony (Paeonia officinalis) or paeony is a perennial flowering plant commonly known as common peony or garden peony. These popular garden flowers have distinctly large, compound, fragrant flower heads, which range in colors from purple and pinkish red to white or yellow with a short blooming season of only 7-10 days. Peony flowers are commonly used in herbal medicine and cosmetics. Our research shows Peonimo-ANB has strong anti-oxidant activities by DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays, as well as intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) inhibition. ROS inhibition has also displayed anti-photoaging effects against both UVA and UVB radiation. In addition, Peonimo-ANB promotes hair growth by stimulating hair cell proliferation.
